CONT

The ecological age of a lake, for example, can be determined by examining not only the living things in and around the lake, but also by probing the land area under the lake through drilling cores. Since lakes naturally change from clear, sparkling bodies of water when they are young to peaty bodies and eventually to bogs their ecological age can be determined by calculation according to whether the lakes are oligotrophic, dystrophic or eutrophic.
